Even though scientists can’t agree on the exact date or the details of what happened on the original big bang, we know one fact:
A big bang has been observed every year in New York City since 1987 where a marathon of continuous musical performances takes place and attracts musicians, composers & music lovers from all over the world.
According to Bang On A Can’s website, the marathon , just like the big bang, is “a collision of musical styles and ideas”.
In the pictures, you’ll see moments from the following performances:
Signal performing Cruel Sister by Julia Wolfe.
Toby Twining performing excerpts from his own work Eurydice.
Bang on a Can All-Stars and Philip Glass performing Glass’ Music in Similar Motion and Closing.
Sun Ra Arkestra performing their own work.
Clarinetists Evan Ziporyn, Carol McGonnell, Joshua Rubin, and Michael Lowenstern performing Hive by Evan Ziporyn.
